Welcome to DJ RAN's Web Site. DJ RAN was born and raised in
Harlem, USA. My parents were born in the Republic of Panama. I
grew up in the 60’s and 70’s listening to a variety of music, mostly
R&B, Jazz, Salsa, Reggae and Calypso. It was through these years
when I developed my deep love and appreciation for all music. I loved
music so much that I wanted to learn how to play as many musical
instruments that I could and write my own songs. My mother took us
off of the Harlem streets and enrolled my siblings and I into the Dance
Theatre of Harlem, to learn the fundamentals of music. For the short
time that we attended, I was able to write a short song, which I
received 1st Place in a contest for, and learned how to play some basic
songs using a guitar, piano/organ, and saxophone. While attending All
Hallows High School, I participated in marches (St. Patrick’s Day, etc.)
and concerts (at Carnegie Hall and other locations) as part of the Band.
Unfortunately our Dance Theatre of Harlem experience came to an
abrupt end, and so did my formal music education/training, as
circumstances had my family move to Maryland. After my high school
years were complete, I attended the University of Rochester (U of R),
where I had an opportunity to be part of some WRUR radio shows
hosted by WRUR legends, The JB (Jamaican Boogie) and Kilo-Watt.
It was through this experience where I learned the fundamentals of
producing live shows/events, and disc jockeying.
In 1990, after my full-time career became established and my inventory
of music CDs became sufficient, I decided to begin DJ-ing as a hobby.
It’s now some 6,000+ CDs later, and now I have my own web-site,
promoting my very own DJ business.
DJ RAN has at his own disposal over 6,000 CDs and 800 music video
DVDs that cover a large range of classic and contemporary music from
R&B to Country, from Hip-Hop to Gospel/Christian music, from Funk
and Disco to Hard Rock. DJ RAN also has a large inventory of English
& Latin Karaoke songs (5,000+) for your Karaoke event.
DJ RAN uses top quality and reliable equipment (Pioneer, EV, QSC,
Shure, etc.) to play the music you want to hear at your event.
DJ RAN specializes in Wedding events. DJ RAN has done hundreds
of wedding events to date, with much kudos and referrals. Once you
select DJ RAN to DJ your wedding ceremony and/or reception, you
and I will begin developing an agenda and music mix, together. I will
use this agenda and coordinate it with all parties involved (host, caterer,
photographer, videographer, etc.) and act as your Master of Ceremony
(MC) for your event. With my experience, professionalism, and vast
knowledge of music and production, you can rest assured that your
special event is in good hands.
DJ RAN also has also entertained at many Corporate Events, Church
Events, Anniversaries, Graduation Parties, Birthdays (Sweet 16s & up),
at locations from Norfolk, Virginia to Brooklyn, NY.
